That's the type of music I've been listening to and playing on my fiddle and guitar for almost 20 years by now I guess. Just wait until I get enough polish on some of the hymns that I do with the jig rythme. Yikes. Some of them really get rolling. I have to work at not making them too celitc flavored. Yes, it's neat that you picked out the celtic influence.

Your breathing advice is very useful. I've been doing the extended notes to build up my vocal chord strength and stamina but haven't paid much attention to the diaphram aside from just relaxing it. With a lot more work and training I'm finally seeing what the voice could be like. Not the voice I would have picked but hopefully adequate nonetheless. Like you said, focusing on the diaphram below the chest and getting it trained to respond and relax has got to be next. Seems like I've tried just about everything short of steroids so far. All it's ever really been asked to do before is a good hardy guffaw now and then! But I think the voice may fine-tune if given the dicipline. So I appreciate the encouragement.

Yes, that is a great hymn and was a nice surprise to me. And they are empty without the words, so I gotta come up with a voice.

Glad you stopped by Jim. I hope you and the wife and all the kids are fairing well.

Much joy in our Lord your way Jim.

ToddTodd Saundershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07460516882625598170noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16662993.post-19732515596184442422007-10-12T08:31:00.000-07:002007-10-12T08:31:00.000-07:00Todd, you have more guts than me to post your voic...Todd, you have more guts than me to post your voice. :)

Seriously though, it sounded good; I think you have a bit of a celtic tone in your voice.

My one piece of advice would be to practice your breathing techniques. Singing is all a matter of the diaphram properly expanding and controlling the release of air.

Try singing the same note for extended periods while controlling the volume from below your chest rather than in your throat.

That is a great hymn as well.

God bless,
JimJimhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07281425856398968419noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16662993.post-68464117915581401362007-10-11T13:15:00.000-07:002007-10-11T13:15:00.000-07:00Oh boy, that's a very nice hymn Rose. Give me a couple of months to really let it season and grow into it. And feel free to put anymore jewels like this one my way and I'll try and not let the authors down.Todd Saundershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07460516882625598170noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16662993.post-7189100176281822862007-10-11T13:02:00.000-07:002007-10-11T13:02:00.000-07:00Oh, hey Rose, thanks.I wonder if that would be O L...Oh, hey Rose, thanks.
I wonder if that would be O Love of God, How Strong and True? I found it here at the house in one of the hymnals I've collected from various thrift shops. I may have heard it but I'll play it and get it on my list to learn and then get back to you with it. It'll be a great exercise for me, and we'll see if I wreck it or not!Todd Saundershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07460516882625598170noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16662993.post-62725743314703455702007-10-11T07:13:00.000-07:002007-10-11T07:13:00.000-07:00Todd!I so enjoyed that.I like that you sang for us...Todd!
I so enjoyed that.
I like that you sang for us to hear. It's always cool and, at least for me, somewhat startling when something actually goes well like that! Hope you are able to clean up your exploded dog soon too.jeffhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08661253413210243056noreply@blogger.com
